About
Recycling advice online contradicts itself constantly. One page says pizza boxes are recyclable, the next says they are not, and both sound confident. This site exists because they are usually both right. They are just answering different questions.
The three questions
"Is this recyclable?" hides three separate questions, and most pages answer only one:
1. Is the material recyclable in principle? That is chemistry and materials science.
2. Will a sorting facility recover it? That is machinery and economics, and it is where most optimistic answers fall apart.
3. Will your curbside program take it? That is local policy, set by contracts that change.
Every item page answers all three separately, so you can see exactly where a "yes" turns into a "no".
When the answer is no, that is not the end of the page. Each item also says where the thing can actually go instead: a drop-off point, a take-back scheme, or reuse.
How answers are sourced
Every factual claim carries a citation, and every citation is chosen to support the specific claim it sits under rather than the general topic. A source that merely mentions the material is not good enough.
Sources are drawn from material trade associations, published recycling research, and the accepted-materials lists that municipal programs and haulers publish themselves.
Each page shows when it was last verified. Recycling rules change with processing contracts, so a page without a date is a page you cannot trust.
What this site will not do
It will not tell you your city's rules. Programs vary and change, and a national site claiming otherwise would be confidently wrong somewhere. Where local rules decide the answer, we say so and point you to your program's own page.
It will not pretend an answer is simple when it is not.
